GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION

This activity normally requires the combined expertise of our geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists.  One of the first tasks for a project is to investigate the subsurface conditions for the construction of different types of engineering structures.  Working with other design professionals, the project team performs the appropriate subsurface explorations, testing, and analyses.  Based on the obtained data, we provide recommendations and design criteria for foundations, earthwork and other elements of the project, which depend on subsurface conditions.  TGR’s geotechnical investigations typically involve the following: Review background information including previous geotechnical reports
  • Review project plans, specifications and discuss project requirements with the project team members including Owners, Architects, Structural Engineers, and Civil Engineers
  • Developing and executing a field exploration and sampling program that is best suited to address all design requirements for a specific project
  • Perform necessary laboratory testing to evaluate the characteristic and behavior of subsurface soil
  • Perform engineering analysis to address settlement and expansion, foundation design, site seismicity, liquefaction, stability of slopes, earth retaining structure design, temporary excavation and shoring, pavement thickness, and percolation rate
